Track Part Numbers

Be aware that the linked track information area is for the current [modern] Nickle Silver track. If your track plan book is of vintage era, then the plans would have been created when track was steel not Nickle Silver. These old plans might also have deployed gradients [the steel track was compatible with locos with Magnahesion that is now an obsolete technology] and won't suit modern light weight low powered locomotives. These old track plans might also make extensive use of Radius 1 curves, again these won't suit modern long wheelbase rolling stock.

So, by all means build a layout from a track plan book, but be aware that even more recent books may still contain some of these unsuitable plans in them. Unsuitable, as in not being suitable for modern rolling stock products.

PS - Track plan books usually give an inventory of the track parts as part of the plan. If the R numbers in the plans don't match the R numbers given on the linked page, then the plan is ancient and designed around track parts that are now obsolete.
