Beat me to it with thehorsey reference!  :)

Unusually full information on the Cornation Class here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Coronation_Class

A favourite class - my first 00 locomotive was LMS 6231 'Duchess of Atholl', Xmas 1951 (less blinkers). BR(M) 46232  'Duchess of Montrose' came two years later (with blinkers). Several more have come since....

Thank you all for replying. Heres a picture of the loco i was querying - makes me wonder now if, as ATOM3624 says it is an earlier LMS model which did not have the "Smoke deflectors". Can anyone confirm this or are they just missing?

If your model was made by Hornby rather than Hornby-Dublo or Wrenn, and is tender driven, it would have had smoke deflectors fitted when new.  However, there were two types of deflector used, depending upon whether the loco's running plate is continuous (as per your original image) or is broken and does not have the upsweep above the bogie as shown in your image.  In the latter case, the deflectors do not have the front 'leg' but, in glorious Hornby tradition, both types carry the same part numbers S9672 and S9673.

I would say they are missing, because the red circled hole is most likely the mounting hole into which the deflectors clip.
