10 Class
Hello everyone.I'm considering purchasing a brand new, Hornby R3835 Thomson Class A2/3 "Sun Castle".Just looking for any feedback on these locomotives, and if the problems with the first batch of A2/3's is still in evidence on this later batch, please? As these were not due for release until Q4, i thought all the previous issues would have been resolved by now?Any info, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ColinB
I bought an "Edward Thompson" which came after the initial batch and it was perfectly ok. My order for "Sun Castle" was cancelled by Hattons and when I was looking everyone had sold out, so I am assuming that the one you are looking at is from a new batch. 10 Class
I have just received my Hornby "Sun Castle". It appears to be in fine shape, with nothing broken, missing and is complete in all respects. (However, i do have a self tapper screw loose in the box, which i can't see anywhere it is missing from?) It appears to be a lot better than the first batch o A2/3 etc. Even the parting line along the top of the boiler is almost unnoticeable. See what happens when i run it. However, why on earth do Hornby persist with this ridiculous flimsy packaging and the annoying plastic strips covering the loco, so annoying when putting the loco back in the box. Thank you for all your advice.
The Doc
I bought one of the original batch. It ran superbly until the valve gear fell apart! Sent it back to Hornby, who lost it somewhere in their warehouse/repairs system, so they sent me a brand new one. That was in late August and possibly the second batch. The newer model looks better, runs superbly, and no faults whatsoever.Despite them losing my original (that was 6 months old), getting a brand new replacement (with humble apologies from the service department for losing the original) was good service, and I have always found Hornby customer service very good at dealing with faulty locos or other problems. It's just a pity that so many have had faults in the first place!
