Gromit1707820096
Hi everybody, I’m a newbie to the Airfix forum and hope everyone is staying safe and well. I just wondered if anybody can give me any advice regarding my efforts to prime this model which has dried looking like I’ve smudged dirty paint over it! I have done a few models as I only started out a couple of years ago and any input would be appreciated. Many thanks!
Sailorman
My first impression is that you applied a relative thick coat of very thin paint. Difficult to say off the photos.Could you tell us what primer you used and what thinner and whether you used paint brushes or airbrush?
Gromit1707820096
Hello, I used a Tamiya light grey primer spray can which was brand new and sealed, I was wondering if the can was cold as it was from the garage? On previous models this primer hasn’t been a problem so I guess it’s down to operator error!
Captain Triggers
Ah the dodgy first coat! Normally these issues sort themselves out with a thin second coat and a good sand. Definitely put it in warm water though! Sand it now too. I had these problems too when I used to spray the primer and matt, but brush paint the rest. Gromit1707820096
A very dodgy first coat! I know things can go wrong but at least it’s early on in the build, it’s just knowing what could have caused the primer to dry that way. It’s fixable so I’ll chalk it up to experience and re spray, sand and warm up the tin first next time, so thank you for the tip.
