First of all, is it DCC ready or DCC fitted?

DCC ready models have a socket fitted for you to plug a decoder into. Until a decoder is fitted it will work as an ordinary analogue loco.

DCC fitted models are designed to be run by a DCC controller but you may be able to run it on a dc (analogue) controller, depending on certain conditions and restrictions, but without being able to operate any of the extra bits such as lighting (if fitted)

If the Mallard DCC is a TTS Sound version, then it will not run "out of the box" on Analogue DC and even if it did, it would not be able to play any sounds.

Adding to Chris if DCC TTS, while it won’t run out of the box on DC, an adjustment can be made (alter CV29) using a DCC controller so it will.

Maybe your local model shop could help.

Hi Eric.

To use the mallard to full DCC capabilities then yes .

If your loco is DCC fitted then you can remove the decoder and fit a blanking plug

This will revert your loco back to a DC loco.

A DCC ready loco should work straight out of the box .
