David-1237072
I have just received a refurbished T20 transformer and it has two terminals (E and L) does it matter which one is connected to the centre rail. I have a terminal connecting plate and circuit breaker and also a connecting diagram but unfortunately it features a T20A and it says that the lower of the terminals must always be connected to the outer rail. Unfortunately on the T20 the terminals are side by side. Many thanks,Dave
96RAF
E would stand for Earth, which is the outer rails on a 3-rail track system and L is Live which is the centre rail of a 3-rail track system, so yes it does matter which connects to what.I would advise you to put a meter across those terminals to check what is coming out on each stud position.I notice that this is a rather specialised 20 volt transformer - see this extract. These models are the only ones recommended for operation the solenoid reversing mechanism on Hornby 20 volt locos that have that facility. The second stud giving full voltage of 22 volts AC then gradually reducing. (First stud is off) This model will also drive any Meccano 20 volt reversing and non reversing models. Varying the speed as required.(internet image)
