Help required please with dcc wiring Hornby Liverpool B17 4-6-0 loco in BR black livery E1663 from the limited edition presentation set. Loco is tender driven. No probs with L and R motor contact but help needed with red and black chip wires for L and R rail contact points. Many thanks.

If it is tender driven, then I would assume, but needs to be confirmed, that the motor is a Ringfield.

Assuming this is correct, there are different types of Ringfields each with their own wiring requirements.

The best information resource for converting Ringfields is linked to on this forum.

The link can be found in the "Useful Links" sticky thread at the top of the "General Discussion" forum.

Follow the link for "Brian Lambert Decoder Install Page" and then scrolling down the page that opens to the Ringfield section. This section also gives guidance on identifying the Ringfield motor type which is necessary to decide which conversion methodology to follow.

Your post as written does not confirm that you have actually broken the electrical path between the wheel pickups and the motor. Your written post says you have identifed the motor conacts, but not that you have electrically isolated them. If you had electrically isolated them, then the termination locations for the decoder red and black wires should be fairly obvious. I feel it would be best if you follow the published conversion methodology, assuming a Ringfield motor, in the documented link. Rather than 'winging it' on your own. Get this motor electrical isolation wrong and the decoder can be easily damaged when the loco is then connected to DCC power.

As this is your very first post on this forum and my reply is long. Please reply using the "Reply Text Box" at the bottom of the page and ignore the within post blue button which is not a reply to this post button. Thank you for your cooperation.

If the loco is E1664 'Liverpool' from a train pack (Loco & 3 coaches), it was released in 1997, right at the time of change from single feed from loco and return via tender ringfield motor block or dual feed from loco and tender wheel pick-ups. Once again, it is a loco (R2044) that is not specifically mentioned on any Service Sheet.
