AceinOz
I recently found out how to set my NCE Powercab to monitor how many amps are being drawn on my layout. However, with no trains on the track it indicates it is drawing .03 amps. Is this normal? I have not installed lights, signals etc, so nothing should be using any power until I put and loco on the track. Also, what is a ‘normal’ amp draw for a loco? Jupiter 1707822591
0.03 is right .the power cab also draws current .You can expect upto 0.5 A on a ringfield motor and about 0.25 on a modern loco These values vary when loco's are running . ColinB
0.3 of an amp is 30 milliamps, I am surprised it is so low. Yes your microcab will use that to drive the processor inside the unit and the display even while it is doing nothing.
AceinOz
Many thanks. That all makes sense.
37lover
ColinB,You are correct that 0.03A quoted by the OP is 30 milliamps but that is not what you typed!
ColinB
Sorry I missed out the zero, typing too fast again. I was just thinking 30 milliamps is not much current, I know the unit is not driving anything. I must admit I very rarely work in amps.
