Nishil-1276863
I recently bought the class390 pride avanti west coast pendolino. On the box, one of the selling points is a “mechanical pantograph”Please can anyone shed any light on what this means or looks like. Out of the box, on car 2 I’ve got the standard pantograph which doesn’t look very mechanical to me.Mod note - your duplicate post rejected. 96RAF
By mechanical it probably means moveable as opposed to fixed, rather than motorised.
ColinB
Is it made out of metal rather than the normal plastic?
What About The Bee
Hello NishilWelcome aboard!Your model was reviewed by Key Model World. Hornby Avanti West Coast OO gauge Pride PendolinoThe pantograph, per the article, is mechanically (manually) posed. It does not appear to be motorized.Bee
ColinB
It seems motorised pantographs are the domain of Bachmann and Accurascale. A Hornby loco is expensive enough, how much do you think it would cost with an electrically controlled pantograph. Then you have the fact you would need a special DCC decoder for control of the pantograph. Given Hornby's development times the loco would be well worn out before the decoder appeared.
