Harlington Straker
Long story but,I have an 0-6-0 engine from the Mixed Traffic set.The chip has fried and I ordered a new one. (cause was faulty motor now fixed)The plug on the decoder can fit both ways. How do I know the correct orientation to plug it in? (wires from loco to pin all seem black)cheersJamie
ColinB
To be quite honest if the loco doesn't have lights it doesn't matter that much. The worst that can happen is the loco runs backwards. The way I do it is look for the blue wire, for me it is the most obvious, it should be near the top of the socket, assuming pin 1 of the socket is at the top. P-Henny
The outer two pins on the four wire socket are the wheel pickups. The inner two pins of the four wire socket are the motor connections. The outer pins to the wheels have no polarity and can be connected either way round. The motor connections don't have proper polarity as such, but the motor will go the wrong way if reversed. So you can safely plug the four wire pin of the decoder any way round. If the loco goes backwards when commanded to go forward, then just turn the four pin plug round the other way.
