Collis
Hi all,I bought an older set to add to our growing collection of cars and track so that we can build multiple layouts and we have found that the cars are somewhat "flighty".To explain, the set is the 2010 Scalextric Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Race Set (C1253) with 2 Mclaren F1 cars (C3046 & C3043).I have found though that the cars wont stay planted on the track and very easily come off the track.I have noticed that when compared to modern cars they don't have much magnetic pull so they have probably degraded over the years. Does anyone have any recommendation to help keep these cars on the track? (besides effectively building a Nasscar track).
Andy P.
Hi Collis,It is certainly possible that magnatraction has reduced over the years.Heat in particular can cause this. You have a few options:I would check out these tuning tips: You could try lowering the magnetYou could buy a stronger replacement magnet.Good luck! Collis
do you have any recommendations for a suitable replacement magnet?
Andy P.
Check out aftermarket suppliers like Pendles in the UK or jadlam.I don't have those cars so I can't make a solid recommendation.
Markally
Hi, you could try easing off on the controller. Boring watching cars go flat out around a layout coming off all the time. I have five R1 curves in my layout, and you have to brake just right to negotiate them. Much more interesting braking and accelerating in and out of corners. New tyres (scalextric restorations) and a clean track.
LesD
I have found that: a) keep the track clean and dust free, I do this before each session, my track is in the garage and there’s quite a lot of dust, b) the tyres make a big difference, I’ve got cars that have very hard tyres and some soft, I’ve even taken to replace hard rear tyres with the softer fronts off another car, and it works. c) run the tyres on some sand or wet and dry paper. LesD
I use a lint roller too to clean the rear times, amazing how much muck comes off.
