Oliver-360610
I have bought a second hand hornby hymek (which is one of the newer ones second hand) and I am having some issues as when I try to run it the wheels will have blue sparks where the pick ups are and I know the motor works as I have run it befor but it now doesn't want to work.If anyone could give me any advice that would be much appreciated thanks.Olly
P-Henny
Oliver, not your fault as the forum section titles are vague, but the HM | DC forum is dedicated for posts relating to the Hornby HM | DC HM6000 series products and software. This is actually stated in the content text at the top of the forum section. This forum section has got nothing to do with generic DC Analogue questions. If you lose sight of your post, then it may have been moved by a mod to the 'General Discussion' forum which is the correct forum section for this type of question. The mod may also edit your thread title to something more descriptive as everyone is asking for assistance and your title doesn't give any clue to what assistance you require. Fishmanoz
Suggest the title be changed to “Pickups Sparking on Non-Operational Hymek” when the post is moved to the General Forum. And Oliver, what if anything have you changed from when it was working? The first thing I’d be checking is that there is not a short from reversal of the pickup connections from the non-powered bogie.
Going Spare
Comparing your view of the chassis from above with the service sheet (272), I think the wiring from the non-powered bogie may be connected to the motor terminals the wrong way round, causing a short circuit, although the service sheet is not as clear as it could be.I interpret the sheet as your red wire should be linking the lefthand brush arm with the lower wheel pick-ups on the non-powered bogie (as in your view from above). Try turning round the pick-up assembly. The sparking may be caused by the wheel backs and treads needing a clean.
508006
Precisely my thinking aswell, the black and red wires at the motor end are connected to the wrong terminals, definitely should be the opposite way round.
