steevann
A friend has given me this loco to service, but I having trouble dropping the motor from the frame. The frame number is S4539 there is a clip (it seems) by the Made in Great Britain side, but I'm afraid of damaging it should it not be the clip. Does anyone have an inkling of getting it out. I think it was about 2008 when it was produced (?)Steve.
atom3624
Don't try anything until the time-served give you clear options.I remember these very well, and yes, it is easy to perform, but easy to break if done incorrectly.Al.
Going Spare
Black Five 44871 was indeed produced as R2686B in 2008 but by that time it had its motor in the loco rather than the tender, which would not have carried casting number S4539.The loco is more likely to be R314 made in 1991 with the S4539 tender chassis frame. To release the Ringfield motor assembly, Hornby's advice is to "Prise the coupling pin [at the front of the tender] forward with a small [bladed] screwdriver then press the motor assembly [upwards] out of the chassis frame." This is shown on Service Sheet 111A, accessible on Lendons' website via the 'Useful Links' post pinned at the top of this forum section.
