Pre-production samples at MK

I think I’m in love! I have to admit that this nearly year-long wait for the HST has been annoying. Those samples look like the wait will be worth it! Assuming the release information on the cards is accurate, April 2024 will be a big month. Class 43, Mark 3s, and Mark 2Fs. I’ll have to wait for the BR Class 47 to haul the Mark 2Fs (I’m doing Eastern Region so 50s aren’t present). But that wait will be made tolerable with the HST!

Another thing to notice… The Defiance release is April 2024 and not 2025 on the information card. That’s good news. Phase 2 is going to come in like a tsunami.

Didn’t the 50s visit Doncaster works for overhaul….?

“And initially, Class 50s going to Doncaster for intermediate overhauls were still returned to traffic ex-works, but in unrefurbished condition. There was, then, a period during which the 1V93 Edinburgh – Plymouth service, famously used for returning ex-works ‘Hoovers’ from Yorkshire down to their own region, was seeing alternate appearances of both refurbished and unrefurbished Class 50s.”

Interesting point, @Moccasin.

Following the HST order cancellations from Hornby, I’ve no longer one coming. These images suggest to me that I should have. However, I do have all the 50s and 66s coming and budgetary constraints implore me to have multi use coaches so my question is this:

Which of mk2 or mk3 BR coaches best cover being hauled by both HST and a 50?

I attended the Milton Keynes show today. Those HSTs look fantastic in person. The demo layout is without barriers so you can get right up close to have a proper nosey at the locos.

Shame there weren’t test shots for the 66’s would have loved to see those in person too.

Next year looking like it will be a busy one! (And an expensive one!) :)

The Mk.3 goes with the HST. Would not be seen being pulled by a 50.
The Mk.2e and Mk.2f go with the class 50 (and the class 47 - if it's a 47/4).

Thank you, I’ll add the mk2 e and f to the wish list.

It would be handy not to have to dive in to each model to get the eta so we can see at a glance when each order is due.

Running HST was an amazing sight! Can't wait for them to be finally available!

Sight and sound! Still can't quite bring myself to preorder the "train pack" (the power cars only) and then each coach, and the domestic grief/ divorce that would start. Price point seems very high compared to the steam locomotives (or is that just me?).

Don’t forget that the HSTs are 1.5 locomotives in analogue terms (only the motor missing from the dummy car) and the digital sound version needs two decoders.
