Michael-370015
I've seen descriptions of this set where it is described as DCC ready 8 pin. However having dismantled the loco I can't see where the relevant decoder chip would be plugged in. Can anyone advise please. Thanks and regardsMichael Bond
RDS
I am guessing you mean you cannot see where ....You can edit your post by selecting the Edit option by clicking the 3 vertical dots at the top right hand side of your post.
P-Henny
I am led to believe through my own Google research that the small cheap shunter type loco in this set is not 'DCC Ready' and does not have a socket. If true, then this loco would need to have a decoder diy fitted to it which would require the use of wiring skills and the use of a soldering iron.Plus, if the 4 wheel loco type in this set was to be 'DCC Ready' it would normally be a 4 pin socket and not an 8 pin socket that you have suggested in your question. If during your research you have seen the term "DCC Compatible" used rather than "DCC Ready". Then this confirms that no decoder socket is present. DCC Compatible just means that the loco is suitable for DIY conversion to DCC not that it has a decoder socket. Going Spare
I am not a user of the HM DC system, but as I understand it, there is no need for a decoder to be in the locomotive and Hornby have never factory-fitted a decoder socket in to the generic 0-4-0 steam/diesel loco chassis used for the loco in this set. Fishmanoz
Mods, could you amend the title please by adding after “with” “fitting a decoder to”.
96RAF
As stated above the HM | DC app driven iTraveller set is for analogue locos, no need for a decoder. The traditional controller is replaced by an HM6000 module which drives two loops of track like an analogue controller but via an app on a handheld device. If you really want to install a decoder to run it under DCC control you need to refer to the Hornby guides, either hard wired or install a socket. Aussie Fred
Australian suppliers specific about it being analogue
ColinB
If you are going to convert it use a 6 pin socket not a 4. This allows you to use decoders from different suppliers and is small enough to fit properly. I do it with all my small locos.
