P-Henny
The problem with this question is that it could be cosidered ambiguous.Brewman has (I presume) answered the question was the model ever made. But given that it has an R number and that R number returns search results for the model being on retailer shelves at some time (currently listed on Hattons but shown as 'O.O.S'), then I believe the question is was the loco depicted by the model ever made in real life.@Howard, just trying to be helpful here. But when asking a question you need to read it back to yourself with the eyes of the membership (not your own as you already know what you mean) and ask yourself is my question totally 100% clear without any ambiguity to others reading this.If Brewman has answered the correct question, then fine. I have just raised the possibility of the question being a different one for you to confirm or deny.
Bulleidboy
There could be a question mark against "was the model ever made"? New lad on the block posted a full list of Hornby Terriers in 2019 (obviously loco's to that date) and there was special mention of R2165C in that it had only been seen in pictures and the 2001 Catalogue! It would not be the first time Hornby announced a loco but it then never appeared.Interestingly, the post was Posted at 19:08:35 Wed 7 Aug 2019 so how was the reference to the 2001 Catalogue known?? Brew Man
Not quite with you there, BB ?? Anyway, with reference to the OP's question, if he did mean was the prototype ever made then it's a yes to that as well. There were apparently 17 made between 1872 and 1880. This information is according the Model Rail Database.https://www.modelraildatabase.com/locomotives/details/2731/Interesting that the Hornby model is listed with BR livery, rather than LB & SCR. Howard-375391
I collect terriers-as far as I know I require 2 ,R9069 and R2165C-am I wasting my time trying to find R2165C(32640 with BR late crest? Howard
Brew Man
No you're not wasting your time but it could take a long time to find them. You might be best keeping an eye out on the likes of Hattons and Rails of Sheffield.
Brew Man
Here's a R9069 on eBay. I hope you have deep pockets.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225918402959
Going Spare
To obtain a definite answer as I feel the responses so far are inconclusive - i.e. there is no photographic evidence of the actual model presented, or anyone confirming they own one - I would contact Customer Services. Other online references show just catalogue images. The model of 32640 in BR late crest livery may well have existed but only in extremely small numbers as prototype samples, which may subsequently have 'escaped' either from Margate or China, without the model going in to production. Tantalisingly, the entry in Pat Hammond's 'British Model Trains Catalogue' is in italics, with the loco number not printed in bold type as with all others, but I have not found any explanation for that, yet prices are quoted in line with those for R2165A & B. It must, however, raise doubts about the model's release.

Sorry, I was posting about the model, not the real thing - How would someone know in 2019 what was in the 2021 catalogue?? He may have gone back and amended his two year old post? Second thoughts 2021 is probably a typo for 2001.
Brew Man
@BB, it was in the 2001 catalogue.
Bulleidboy
Yes it was in the 2001 Catalogue as R2165 A/B/C - it came with three running numbers(?) - however R2165C was not listed on the January 2001 Price List? R2165 A and B were both listed in the 2002 and 2003 catalogue. Not the end of the world - Happy Christmas.blush
