david_abramczyk
I've just started thinking about maybe adding another A4 to my collection; but this time going for one in BR Early Crest condition, and modifying it to be 60013 'Dominion of New Zealand'. How would one go about changing the smokebox numberplates?
Going Spare
Try Fox Transfers or Railtec for black blanking and renumbering waterslide transfers.
atom3624
Each time, it requires 2 things!Good and careful selection.Patience!State the obvious, but smokebox door numerals are tiny. A slight misalignment will always be visible, at least to you!Al.
david_abramczyk
Makes sense, but I was also meaning things like, are the factory-applied smokebox numbers just printed on, or are they embossed, and would need to be cut away?
atom3624
Some can be slightly raised - very careful fine emery can flatten easily enough, then paint black. Some transfer sets give the full number as one, others I've had to apply one-by-one.Some like Fox Transfers include the front number plate in metal with nameplate sets. I affix these using a very thin slither of black tack.Al.
