Too Tall
Hi guys, I realise that the 28mm speakers are long in the tooth, so my question is are they decent or are there better alternatives to fit ? I did find a bass enhanced 27mm but it was only 4 ohm, and I understand Hornby decoders need an 8 ohm.
Pendragon Sailing
Have a look at the speakers available on the Roads & Rails website. They have many different sizes available with lots of helpful advice on what/how to fit in which loco. https://www.roads-and-rails.co.uk/collections/speakers …and yes, HM7000 decoders need an 8 ohm (or equivalent) speaker load.
Simmo009
YouChoos do a 28mm round speaker. Not sure if it is any different from what comes with a TTS decoder. Will see if I can find out and report back.
Too Tall
Cheers gents, I have not heard a 28mm old school speaker myself, hence I didnt know if they might be as good as newer but smaller ones. Usually bigger = better with speakers in this size !
Bulleidboy
I have a Hornby Merchant Navy Class 35014 Nederland Line that has been fitted with the Hornby TXS sound decoder, but I replaced the speaker with a Zimo 28mm round speaker - the bass sound was a little deeper - and the speaker went into the tender under the weight, as designed for a TTS speaker. The downside to fitting the speaker in the tender is that it is fairly obvious that the sound is coming from the rear of the loco (tender) rather than the front.
