Further, short circuit protection is sized against peak draw. You do not want to dump 2.5 amperes through that little motor before that controller trips. Heavy current will generate lots of heat and melt varnish on the coils. All the magic smoke will be let out. It will not matter if you use it only lightly or sparingly.
