Alvonian
Recently purchased the Fowler 4F. Track is newly relaid and clean but running of this loco has never been smooth. Started to add a bit of weathering to wheels and connecting rods. Now loco is very erratic and judders into life, (if at all) or requires pressure on tender. Any ideas what I might do to improve the situation?

Flashbang
Hi I wold start with.... Weather wheels....do ensure all wheel treads are spotlessly clean. Use a powered wheel cleaning set or a fibre pencil to do this. Also check no paint has got onto the rear of wheels where any rear of wheel wiper contacts rub. Ensure the wipers interfaces are clean and they are all in contact with the rear of their wheels and remain in contact as the wheel moves slightly across the chassis. Alvonian
Many thanks. I suspected I may have got paint behind the wheels, although i was careful with the treads. It seems to be moving better and is fine with head of steam. At slower speeds still a bit erratic. I'll continue as you suggest. Many thanks.
