Point 'Dual' control R8247 & traditional switched

Is it possible to retain old point wiring along side DCC R8247 control. (For the same point).

I.e. Wire up R8247 3 wires to current wiring.

The 8247 would get spikes of voltage up its output, only momentary when point thrown. Will this blow

the 8247 unit.

I guess it depends on the output electronic logic type!

Traditional point wiring seems to work on 12-18v ac or dc. If above is possible what voltage would be preferable.

Short answer is no. The current applied will almost certainly be fatal for the decoder.

You could do it by installing a switch to go from DCC control to your old wiring, such that the decoder is not connected when you use the conventional switch

method.

And remember there is really only one reason you must convert your points to DCC, particularly given you already have them wired conventionally, and that is to automate their operation with Railmaster etc.
