Abeggs
Having not had a railway since i was a teenager I'm a bit behind the times. However, i have decided on one thing. I want it run from my laptop. So, do i need a dcc controller or will elink suffice?
58001
Elink with the Hornby Railmaster software will work fine from a Windows laptop. I have run Railmaster from both Windows 7 and Windows 8 successfully although getting the drivers working at the beginning can be challenging. Get as much advice as you can here and elsewhere on the internet.
Abeggs
Cheers. The plan is to read everything I can lay my hands on and Ask for advice throughout. I take the driver problems are easily resolved by searching forums. Im not much of a computer man but can get by with a few pointers
Fishmanoz
AB, suggest you start by downloading the trial version of RM from this site. Don't forget to install it by right-clicking and running the installation file as administrator, most important. Once you do that and restart, it should ask you to upgrade to the latest version 1.55, which you should do. This time, you can ignore the run as administrator warning as it will do so anyway, your having done that for a start. You will now notice when it has finished that it has downloaded 4 PDF files to your desktop. They are the manual itself, the manual for the handheld apps you can buy, the driver installation instructions and a guide to solving any problems caused by your virus software. Start by reading the manual and the driver installation, which is really quite straightforward despite what 58001 says. And when you get your eLink, just enter the licence code that comes with it in the trial version, you don't have to reinstall. Please do keep asking questions, there are many here to help. Best to ask on the RM forum too for anything to do with eLink/RM. And you can also email RM Support from within the Help window of RM. They are very good and responsive.
