Culp
Anybody suggest any ways I can get PECO Point Motors to work well with a ASSESSORY DECODER? See https://www.hornby.com/forums/hornby-forums/hornby-digital/6139/
Pete172
Hi, I use the R8247 acc decoders with Gaugemaster / SEEP PM 1's. At first they were difficult to power properly, as they demand approx 4 amps of current !, whereas the Hornby or Peco motors use a bit less. However, after many alterations I have managed to get reliable service from these motors. Your Peco surface mount motors should not pose a great problem for use with the R8247 decoder. I would suggest the following :- 1. Ensure the points are able to move very freely by hand. 2. Use minimum 16 x 0.2 mm strand wire to take the power from the decoder ports to the motor ( I had to increase this to 24 x 0.2mm strand wire for some troublesome motors). If this gauge of wire is not to hand, try doubling up the wire that you are using, or try 5 amp home lighting flex. You need suitable wire to let the amps flow ! 3. If still having problems, try increasing the fireing output time for the decoder port, as from memory you can increase it up to 0.8 of a second. This will give a longer burst of power to the point motor. Let us know if you are still having issues, once you have tried the above... P.
Fishmanoz
Exactly the same as a Hornby point motor except the common wire is Green, not Black.
cemexdan
Do you need to use a CDU with an accessory decoder or are they built in already?

Fishmanoz
They are built in Dan. An exception is DCC Concepts where their AD1 and AD4 are designed for Cobalt type motors. Instead use their ADS8 where the S is for solenoid and they include CDUs.
