58001
From Hornby the most advanced DCC locomotives are those with sound. The steam locos are probably the most interesting sound wise but they do not come with lighting. The diesel locomotives have both lights and sound. All of the other big manufacturers offer similar features. Certain shops (you will have to search on the internet as I can not name them here) offer advanced DCC fitting services which add small lights to steam locomotives including flickering lights in the firebox. Again, a search on the internet will show up companies that offer DCC decoupling systems but you will have to fit that yourself. There exist DCC controlled smoke units for steam locomotives, again something you will have to search for on the internet. These are particularly awkward as they require power decoder chips in order to deliver the necessary power to the smoke unit, in addition to the power necessary to drive the locomotive and the other DCC functions. Culp
Hi - if you are thinking of moving to sound and smoke and dcc from my experience it is well worth the move. I have an excellent Hornby steam loco with smoke and sound. It really was worth the money - they can be expensive. To choose why not go and visit one of the specialist shops that really specialise in dcc sound? There a few around and well worth a visit. The one in Sheffield Intake is excellent and they will talk you through the options but there are a number of others.
Graskie
There are the odd offerings on that auction site. I've bought mine that way but can't give my favourite supplier's name on this forum. You're talking about winning bids anything up to £250 - £300 generally, though. For that you need something like a big stash of gold.
