Fishmanoz Posted February 15, 2014 Share Posted February 15, 2014 It's possible to fit one to any decoder including the 8249 but you have to know what you are doing. It must be fitted to the output side of the bridge rectifier which consists of the 4 large diodes usually found near the connecting plug or wires. 2 of those are connected to the red and black wires and are the inputs. The other 2 are the outputs where you connect a stays live. As you need to use an electrolytic capacitor, you need to get the polarity correct too. If that all sounds like a foreign language, don't try it. Suggest instead you get a decoder already fitted or one designed to be fitted. One I'm aware of is the DCC Concepts type.
