dcc point operation.

I am thinking of using seep point motors on hornby points switched by lenz ls150 (ls150 already in ownership) Can anyone advise for or against on current experience? Is there any advantage on using the latching seep version? Also what is the advantage of variable thrust and how is it adjusted?.

Ooh my head hurts.

You would normally only use the latching version if your points have no latching mechanism of their own. Hornby and Peco points (and may others) have over centre springs to keep the points switched one way or the other and as long as the spring is still fitted and working, you don't need the latching version of seep motor. In fact trying to use a latching motor with points that also have their own latching springs may lead to problems as the total force needed to operate them may be more than the seep can provide.

The PM1 with the built in switch is probably the better option as it can be used for frog swiching on live frog points or for providing a lamp on a control panel to indicate which way the points are set.

Admin, another for moving to the DCC forum.

A number of of people have had problems with Seep motors as they use more current than most. This means that you have to have a longer interval between point throws while the decoder recharges and you won't be able to throw 2 points in a crossover on the one decoder port.
