Ian Eckersley Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I have unboxed several two lane micro scalextric sets to reduce storage space. I didn't notice before I did that they contain a range of different power supplies. Some 19V ac and some 16V ac and different current ratings for each voltage. How do I know which one to use with each set? Surely the cars are built on the same chassis with the same motor and so voltage and current requirements will be the same. Presumably the track power connector box contains a rectifier and voltage regulator to provide the 12V dc to the track via the throttle controllers. If so does it matter which power supply I use? If it doesn't why do Hornby have a range of power bricks? Many thanks.
LCDR Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I don't know about Scalextric but model trains are supplied by a variety of power sources which can vary from 12 to 18 v and as you rightly say the controller will generally adjust to the power source although performance may vary as a result. I can run a 1930s 6v Hornby series Metropolitan on a conventional 12v 2.5A power controller and provided I do not turn the power up too much it remains controllable. If you are still concerned about it why not contact Hornby Customer Service via the main part of the website?
96RAF Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You could ask on here as well, which has a 'Scaley' section. http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?s=45d00d6fe41064c5e2a08bf29c33ad6d&showforum=17 or here http://www.electricimages.co.nz/Default.aspx?Page=SSD_Control&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
