Wobblinwheel Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I received my new passenger coaches two days ago. I have to say I'm impressed with the detail! The strange thing is, all of them had wheelsets that were out of gauge! (too close together) Two of them so bad they wouldn't go through #6 turn-outs (points?) without derailing. The good thing is, since some of the wheelsets were so difficult to remove without breaking said details, I had to get "creative". I found out a slightly-modified set of "Harley-Davidson specialized snap-ring removal pliers" does the the job perfectly! I can actually spread the wheels without removing them! Have you guys experienced much of this? Now for the lighting.......I found out the "Easy Peasy" Rapido lighting kits won't be availlable until 2015. Good grief. I may have to devise some "wipers" for the wheels and use 12 volt bulbs. I found out if you get power from ALL wheels, you have very little "flicker"......if any. At about $3.00 per coach, that ain't bad!
Wobblinwheel Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 What coaches were these? R4404A, R4567,R4485,R4174C
gilbo2 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 You live and learn, I did not realise that the back to back measurement on coach wheelsets could be adjusted on Hornby, I thought they were all fixed.

The wheels have plastic bushings on the axle. They slide fairly easily. Mine had splined axles, so don't twist. Just pull, or push.
walkingthedog Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I think the back to back can be changed when the wheels are fitted to the coach or wagon, I guess it depends who's doing it at the factory. Perhaps the apprentice did yours. Good idea using the snap-ring pliers. Do they come free with a Harley? If do it could be expensive getting some.
rayarpino Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Shoddy quality control and disrespect for customers. Totally unacceptable. Perhaps this is a one-off fault, if not, imagine the number of customers making calls and journeys that didn't need to happen. Like distorted Skaledale resin items.... Fast road to a marred reputation and loss of customers. Pity.
