Class 89

I don't know if anyone else noticed but in the video on how Hornby scanned the Class 71, 89001 Avocet could be seen in the background.

I'm being optimistic here but does anyone reckon there's a chance of the Flying Badger being produced for either 2015 or 2016?

On a side note, I'd love Hornby to produce a MKIV TSOE to go with the MkIV sets they already produce. The addition of a coach with no corridor connection and round buffers on one end would complete a MKIV set properly.

I noticed it too. It is the model at the very top of my wish list. Hornby could make it in at least 3 different liveries and sell it with Mk4 and mk3 coaches.

3? IC Swallow, GNER and what?

You're right about the Mk3s and Mk4s though. Could be marketed to go with the IC225 sets.

.

Yes 3 liveries

.

1) Intercity

2) Intercity Swallow

.

3) GNER

.

PS: I don't mind if Hornby use "Design-Clever" for this (though that method is now scrapped). It worked fine for the PS and 8P and gave many a chance to own a model that was affordable. These electrics have more underframe detail than on the body so let's see. Maybe Hornby will do it soon.

.

Cheers!

Hi Alessio

Actually there are 4 variants - not being pedantic, but we may as well get it right!

InterCity

InterCity Swallow

GNER with white branding

GNER with gold branding

For those who are interested the new edition of Locomotives Illustrated covers the cl 89 and cl 90

I didn't know 'design clever' has been scrapped. Shame, I thought it was clever, less fiddly bits on the locos.

Well isn't it obvious? When design clever was around the P2 and 8P rolled out with moulded plastic buffers and moulded plastic detail. But since 2014 the K1, J15, D16/3, Class 700 are all gone back to what super-detail was.

TBH design-clever would never work unless it was for the railroad range. People want detail.

Here I have to disagree Jeremiah, not everyone wants piles of detail, the super detail models have one major issue, they are very fragile, too fragile and tend to leave bits in the four foot. A lot of people are buying railroad models becuase they are robust and hit the price mark for most pockets.

The problem with people is endless, I thought you might have understood that I mean't most people. We are all aware that what Hornby did was actually correct but most modellors took it as a backward step. I would'nt mind design-clever models. The EP Hall looks lovely. Sadly it will be the last of it all. What people fail to see is that it does look right (unlike many older models that were out of scale). Moulded detail is indeed a step back but I heard that moulding has evolved and you get better results now.

So Hornby... can you bring on a Class 89?

No it isn't 'obvious' at all. Just because those you mentioned haven't used design clever doesn't mean others won't follow that do use it. I thought you'd read it somewhere not assumed it.

I agree with SoT not everybody wants piles of detail. From about 3 feet most would be hard pressed to spot the difference.

Well then it is just called using "common sense", if Hornby were to continue using "design-clever" they would have stated it. Simon Kohler on many occasions has stated that "design-clever" was a strategy that hadn't worked well and they will return to producing proper models. He has stated it many a time.

They also haven't said they're not making them either. Sorry if I touched a nerve Jeremiah. Simon is a very knowledgeable man as you probably know if you've met him but not working for Hornby full time any more. Let's just wait and see.

No need to apologise WTD, you seem very focused on actually posting un-necessarily lately. From the time I posted about the 2015 Announcements you just seem to have some silly problem or the other when no other member has had a problem. I have no idea what issues you have but I'd appreciate it if you stop completely. What I stated about the design-clever method was nothing but what I have indeed been reading all over the internet and not just some assumptions. Have you ever thought about going and seeing the latest models Hornby made? If you really want to comment on ever little thing I suggest you find someone else to stalk. If you cannot get rid of that irritable nature of yours I will be more than happy to stop posting completely on the Hornby forums, there is no need for me to share latest images and EP samples as I usually do anyways. Goodbye!

Oh boy you obviously don't know me. When you first posted the info about new locos etc I was very impressed and thought wow you really have your finger on the pulse. Then I noticed you'd just lifted items from the news section without saying where it was from. I'm really not stalking you I promise. I have years of experience on model railways and help where I can. Not sure how old you are but when you're an old git like me your entitled to get up people's noses, it's our job. Enjoy your trains.

Hi Jeremiah, For what it's worth (not much I know) it seems to me that you are very good at 'dishing out' the insults, like saying other posters lack Common Sense, have an irritable nature and make unnecessary posts. However, when the poster responds you then get all upitty! I suggest that if you can't accept anything thrown at you then don't hurl insults around in the first place. In other words - Grow Up!!
