grandadm Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Can anyone help? I wish to put together a train set for 2 grandsons 4 and 6, so they each have a train. To stop possible conflict should I integrate two analogue systems each with their own controller, or if I use a DCC system does this mean I can only have one controller? If I use the old system, how easy is it to upgrade to a newer system later?
poliss Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The Hornby Select DCC controller can have another Select plugged into it as a Walkabout controller, so each of your grandsons would have one controller each. If they use mobile phones, there's also the option of Hornby's eLink system where they can control the trains using the phones, or Tablet computers.
poliss Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Yep WTD. I think kids are born with them these days.

Thanks for that, I think the elink system is a step too far at this age, so if I buy for eg. a mixed freight train set no r1226 or similar and get extra rails and another train set am I right in thinking I can also purchase the walk about controller and link altogether and they can operate separately?

walkingthedog Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Yep WTD. I think kids are born with them these days. You could be right there poliss. I don't know any under the age of 10 with a phone apart from the Fisher Price version.
poliss Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Yes, you can connect a Walkabout controller to the Select using the R8266 Select/Elite to Walkabout Select Lead. Be aware that the identical looking Hornby DCC RJ12 3m Lead - R8236 will not work. The wires are connected differently in the plugs.
