I have a quite of railway stock etc in my loft so after reading up and recently visiting a small show I have decided to take the plunge and start building however due to space I would like to start my project with a shelf railway. now this is where the advice is needed, I know the layout I want to create but what do I need to purchase to make tracks live since this is not your basic oval track. Really appreciate advice and being pointed in the right direction to purchase what i need

A straight forward end to end. A snippet of the landscape in the space. N guage may be better but 00 with a single track and perhaps a siding for milk tankers or cattle. Rolling stock being a tank loco and a couple of suitable wagons with a brake van or a tank loco with a brake suburban coach and a milk tank on the rear. Have a look at this...  http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/shelf-layout.htm

Hi obie... Shelf railway? Sounds a bit like the one I have round my garage wall... 6" wide (double track) down each side with an 18" board across the back of the garage with a 4 track platform.. Dcc controlled either elink or select whichever I fancy at the time. I have a removable board across the front of the garage giving me a 17x9'6" tailchaser which runs while I am building my new exhibition layout... Shelf layouts are good for limited space - maybe a 6'x6" shunting layout?
