CornishJim
Hey guysI am slowly installing some PM-1 point motors and have noticed them sticking a bit on one side, even when off the layout, is there a little trick to combat this?
SteveM6
If that's the one with the built in switch it's probably the sprung contact causing the problem. When I've encountered this, I've just worked the motor by hand a couple of times and that has freed it up.
CornishJim
Just fitted a CDU, all firing perfectly now !! And with no risk of burning them out !!
Graskie
Yes, those CDUs can really pack a punch into point-changing, can't they? I used one on my old DC layout but haven't yet connected my point motors to my Elite/RM DCC setup yet.
CornishJim
I bought 3 points decoders but they don't work even customer services couldn't help so I am building a switch Panel instead.
RDS
What's a CDU?I am guessing the U may stand for Unit.
Graskie
Capacitor Discharge Unit, RDS. It is generally integrated in the wiring system to give a bit of kick to motor points.
Graskie
Yes, I used to get an enormous discharge years ago.

The R8247 has one CDU which serves all four ports, so you need to wait 3 seconds or so if you are firing ports on the same decoder in succession to allow the CDU to recharge. The ADS8, on the other hand, has one CDU per port, so the recharge time constraint is removed.Ray
