ModelerXYZ
What would I need to do to make part of an existing layout able to switch from conventional 12V DC to DCC? would it be just a question of isolating the section and putting a switch in the circuit to switch between the two? I ask because if I get any of my stuff from Australia coming to England, I will want to run my DCC locos on my DC layout and do the other way, so a switch between the 2 would be useful. Fazy
Sounds about right. Double check the the dcc power supply is differently only feeding the parts you want and not feeding any other sidings. Where a unchiped loco may be stored. Apart from that you should be fine.
2e0dtoeric
Be very careful!! If you put 16v ac (dcc signals) into a 12v dc loco, you will get a puff of smoke from the motor, and a big bill for replacing it!DCC loco's on a dc track will be fine - providing you have disabled the dc option, or they'll all take off like escaped rockets! It is much safer to keep them totally separated, either different layouts, or removed from the track, when running 'the others'. 2e0dtoeric
Fazy put - power supply is differently only feeding - - - -I suspect he meant definitely!
poliss
Don't attempt it. A loco is bound to cross from one section to the other and will probably fry both controllers. There are ways to do it, but you need transitional sections and a special module.
