Richrua
Hi all./media/tinymce_upload/image30.jpg/media/tinymce_upload/image31.jpgi have a few older dc hornby locos that I would like to convert to dcc in order to run with elink/ rail master. I have searched about, but the type of tender in my old 8f seems a bit tricky for conversion. There seems to be some sort of direct pickup to the drive with no wire to handily interrupt for the dcc chip. There is one wire which leads to one set of pickups in the loco. See the pic. Are there any guides for dcc conversion of this type of motor?
Fishmanoz
Hi Rich, welcome to the forums. Yes, it's tricky and yes, there are guides. The trick as you seem to have realised is that you have to isolate the LH brush connection from chassis or you will blow the chip. This is best done using a nylon screw instead of the metal one. Norfolk Coast Models sell these, if their doors are still open. If not, SoT will know where to get them. For a more complete explanation, Google the Brian Lambert site, go to his lengthy DCC section which is across 2 large pages and you will find he covers conversion of Ringfield motors of various types including this one.
