Make sure you remove surplus oil from the wheels and clean the tracks in case any oil has got onto them.Ray
trainlover23 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 OH Dear now you will have to clean all the track and rolling stock wheels . NEVER EVER oil the wheels or track.

96RAF Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Clean cloth/cotton buds and if necessary IPA (iso-propyl-alcohol) cleaner, obtainable from your local chemist.

Rog RJ Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 You probably won't be able to get IPA from your local chemist (if you are in the UK) but you can use methylated spirits instead, which you should be able to get from a hardware store such as Wilkos or any DIY store. Methylated spirits isn't quite so good as IPA as it's not so pure but works well.
96RAF Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Shouldn't be necessary to take it apart. Just clean what you can see, in particular around the wiper contacts that rub against the wheel backs. You can use a small square 9V battery to move the wheels around a bit, by pressing the battery contacts against the wheels for a moment.

Any ideas where the pickups on R1173 or any dcc loco are?ThanksOlivert12
St1ngr4y Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Usually copper strips pressing against the backs of the wheels behind the flanges.Ray
96RAF Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 They can be hard to see. Use a small led torch to help.
Graskie Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have one of those torches and they are brilliant. I also use a headset with varying illuminations.
Fishmanoz Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Do you have the LEDs pointing in or out Graskie?
