Big Gordon Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 It is not obvious where to type my question in! Anyway I have just got a second hand R070 and would like to know if anyone has any instuctions for it as I would I would like to let it into my base board.
JLBA Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Type in Hornby Turntable instructions into a well known search engine.......

Hi Big Gordon Are you sure you need to sink it into the baseboard? It is designed to sit on top, although it will no doubt look more realistic let into the board. Trevor
Big Gordon Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks for your replies. I will try a cut out on an old piece of wood to see what it looks like before I hack into my baseboard. Sometimes the tender driven engines don't like even the smallest incline.I emailed Hornby direct and got by return email 7 pages of instruction for the turntable.Great service!!
poliss Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 It would be nicer if they put them on the website as downloads.
2e0dtoeric Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 probably a stupid question, but I've been away from railways for 30 years - is the rotating bed of the R070 long enough to accommodate the 9F loco?
the ferret Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 2e0dtoeric that is not a stupid question but very much to the point(s)! I also have a question, "What dimensional area of baseboard must be set aside to accommodate R070?"Clearly the angle and direction of approach of the shed roads must be taken into account also. But just finding space to install the beast will do for now, please!!
2e0dtoeric Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Well - thank you for the total lack of response!
walkingthedog Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 2e0dtoeric said:Well - thank you for the total lack of response!Maybe nobody knows!I had one when it first came out, didn't like it very much, very noisy and very big. Think it would take a real 9F. It's not really designed to be let into a board. I have a Peco one, more realistic. I would say the Hornby version is more plug and play.
2e0dtoeric Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Thanks for that, Dog! At least somebody is reading the forum!I can see that I'm going to have to make the trek into the nearest shop, 45 mins on foot, or three buses, each way (after christmas, I hate the pushing and shoving of crowds),and ask if they have an 070, put my 9F on it, and see!
walkingthedog Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I'm pretty sure it will fit. I used to have a Duchess and that fitted.
poliss Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I don't know the dimensions of the turntable bed or of the 9f. I could find out by googling it.
walkingthedog Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 The whole turntable is 382mm diameter. Looking at a photo I reckon the track bed is about 280mm (11 inches) and the 9f is 260mm (10 inches).
naugytrax Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Yeah, looking at the instructions for the R.070 which you can download from this website, there is what appears to be a scale diagram in which the length of the turntable deck is shown as 1.8 times the length of an R.600 straight, which would mean it's about 300 mm long. A 9F is 66 feet 2 inches long overall (265 mm if it's a true 4mm scale model) but only 56 feet (224 mm) long where it counts, the distance between front and back wheels. Should be enough room for you ..
96RAF Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 @Bebspoke You have dragged up a nine year old post to ask a semi related question that has been covered in detail on this forum multiple times since then. This topic talks to DC instructions and you are looking for conversion to DCC instructions. Your question has been moved to the DCC section under a more suitable title. See here https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/hornby-turntable-instructions-for-conversion-to-dcc/?p=1/
