Parrish
I ordered and have received a R8249 Hornby decoder through the post, bought of E bay.half the pins are bent.Q: does anyone have any experience of bending the pins?Q: can I bend the pins?q: also the loose purple wire ? Should it be loose or should all wires have soldered connections.regardsSteve
poliss
Was it a Buy It Now? If so, contact the seller for a refund. If it was an auction, also contact the seller explaining the problem. The purple wire isn't supposed to be connected to the plug. There are 9 wires and the decoder plug only has 8 pins.
Parrish
Ok answered the purple wire question with a search on the forum.so the pins, anyone have any experience trying to bend these?reputable model shop sold as new, seller will refund if I return, just seems a shame to return for a few bent pins If they can be straightened. Parrish
Took a risk and they do bend easily without breaking.
Augustus Caesar
Took a risk and they do bend easily without breaking. It would be easy to bend these without breaking them and you have done that now anyway. What I would say is that if any damage WERE done it would simply be that the pin would loosen away from the board itself via broken solder. However, it is simple to resolder and strengthen the join again. I have done this on ONE occasion when I hadn't noticed a slight bend to one of the 'corner' pins and wondered why the plug would not fit into the socket with a little force. The pin pushed through the board and I simply resoldered it. Good as new... So, just for future reference...
