Ste9876
New to dcc and I'm wanting to use a hornby select to control some 2car DMU to go from one station to another then reverse and go back. Can this be done?
Chrissaf
Your title says 'Auto Reverse'. If your question being asked is can the Hornby 'Select' controller be configured to take over control of the loco and run it in a pre-programmed manner, then the answer is NO. The 'Select' controller is a MANUAL controller. You would have to drive the loco manually between one station and the other..Be also aware, that the 2 Car DMU would need to have a DCC decoder fitted (not just DCC Ready) for it to be controllable by the Hornby 'Select' as the 'Select' is a DCC controller..The Hornby RailMaster / eLink DCC controller combination, CAN run programs and AUTOMATE the movement of a DCC Decoder fitted loco between stations, and is a similar price to the Hornby 'Select' controller but you need a PC to run RailMaster on as it is a software package. poliss
You don't need Railmaster to do that. It can be done with the Elite and a Sapphire decoder. The eLink and Railmaster is a cheaper option of course.
walkingthedog
Or buy an Auto reverse moduel from elsewhere if they work with DCC.
poliss
Nope WTD. A DC auto reverse module won't work on DCC. It has to be done with some type of programme, either set up in the controller or the decoder.
walkingthedog
It did wonder if that was the case poliss.
Flashbang
While you cannot use a conventional DC shuttle module with a DCC console. You can obtain a module specifically for DCC that will shuttle a loco or train back and fore. It is produced by a company called Tam Valley. Not cheap but it will work (Or it should!) with any DCC system, including the Select! There are UK suppliers of Tam Valley products.http://www.tamvalleydepot.com/products/trainshuttle.html
walkingthedog
Thanks FB, so my suggestion stands. Still cheaper than buying Elite/Railmaster etc.
Graskie
Not as cheap as you, though, WTD.
