Has any one got one of these in OO of course? I have one but without the first 'funnel'. Can sombody measure it for me in mm. Height, top dia and bottom dia. and smallest middle dia. I can then turn one up in real brass, even though the original looks painted.

Thanks

I just unscrewed the chimney from my no. 1466 (Airfix 54153-0) and measured it. Mine has a plastic chimney, not brass. The bottom of the part is flat, not concave as you might expect, because the chimney is bolted into a recess on the top of the smokebox and the fairing round the base of the chimney is part of the main body moulding. The overall height is 13.4 mm, the diameter is 5.05 mm at the bottom and 5.3 mm around the "ridge" just below the flange. Apart from this ridge the chimney is a pure cylinder with no taper. The flange at the top is 7.92 mm across. The height of the chimney to the bottom of the flange is about 11 mm. When it's assembled, the chimney top is 12.0 mm above the highest part of the smokebox.

Compared to photographs, the chimney looks a bit skinny and by comparison the flange sticks out too far. The drawings in Russell's GWR Engines Vol. 2 seem to confirm this. However, it's possible that different chimneys were fitted at different times.

Re: my post above. Sorry, I was wrong. The chimney isn't plastic, it's some kind of dark brass which has been chemically treated to appear black. My apologies for presuming to contradict you, Poliss and W-T-D!

Consider yourself lucky, I was about to send SWMBO round with the Brownies.
