A life-long fan of Airfix
Hi Greatest Fan. This forum is for Hornby Model Railways, I believe Airfix has its own forum.
LCDR
That said, the 1:72 kits are useful to railway modellers too. Pity that there are no 1:76 civilian kits in the Hornby range any more (apart from the Pylons) .
edward_goodwin
Will the Model land kits ever be reissued , l know Dapol used to do them for a time but they seemed to have disappeared. Eddy.
walkingthedog
What are land kits?
Graskie
Tri-ang "Model-Land Construction Kits", WTD. I have a fold-out leaflet for them, together with a separate price list, the latter showing a date of 9th September 1963. They were " a new range of highly detailed construction kits for models in perfect scale with HO/OO Gauge Tri-ang Railways and Minic Motorways. All parts are pre-coloured and no painting is required."There was a fair choice of both private and commercial buildings, pylons and people. Minix cars are also illustrated. Pictures show layouts with mixed road and rail systems combined. I can put up a couple of pictures of it if anyone is interested. The range didn't last for long, probably just a year or two, at least according to my catalogue collection. Very rare catalogue.
LCDR
What are land kits? /media/tinymce_upload/69881c7d4e9d3c7edb1c1da9e690d939.jpg I am not sure if you already know the answer or not, WTD? However at the risk of a cheeky remark - here goes. 'Model-Land' were a series of 4mm scale building kits made by Tri-ang and Hornby for a few years. Pre-coloured they were similar in concept to the Pola and Faller European building kits, but more suitable to the British scene. Only the Pylons seemed to have survived a cull of items some years ago. They were contemporary with Minic Motorways There have been some good kits and ready made buildings in the Hornby range in past years. The R145 modern signal box was a superb model, and I think ought to be brought back. The price list from 1964 is attached.
Graskie
Actually, I have just across another small black and white foldout leaflet which could be even rarer. It shows no date but could well be from something like 1965, fitting in with the Tri-ang Railways 11th edition catalogue showing Stehenson's "Rocket", because it includes that, along with action wagons. This has less Model-Land kits, but also Tri-ang Railways and Minic Motorways included. Again, I can put up pictures of it if requested.
Graskie
And, finally, I have a rare small black and white single sheet headed "Tri-ang Real Estate" which includes some of the same items. It does say, though, at the bottom "MADE IN ENGLAND BY INTERNATIONAL MODEL AIRCRAFT LTD. (A MEMBER OF THE LINES BROS. GROUP). Again, not dated. Any pictures for anyone? Postman Prat
Will do, LC, although pics posted at weekends take longer to moderate , don't they? That's because Adam is inconsiderate and likes a couple of days off at the end of the week. These youngsters have no stamina !!! Viva Adam

Graskie
Just finished taking pictures. Thanks, LC and poliss for your posts. Your comments are reflected in what I'm showing in my following posts. No need to put up the Real Estate item because both sides of it are included in poliss' link. However that site does not include this item./media/tinymce_upload/3e32d7bfe486065bfb0914663f370acc.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/2a04e40fa4887010f5c97b4bf10b9bab.JPG
Graskie
Only the front of the 1963 foldout leaflet is shown on the site, so here is all of it: /media/tinymce_upload/d04fc30c7db8b24f02872c2bb9e26aef.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/3437f7b3de28c83a8680584edb0cdb14.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/4e5834eb152dfbda656a2672ea35509a.JPG
Graskie
I mentioned a Model-Land price list but I have now found another, one 9th September 1963, the other 1st May 1965: /media/tinymce_upload/fee77dfe470d57b93b65e3512cf57732.JPG /media/tinymce_upload/88baa4db32d1da735c1366e984491f06.JPG
Graskie
LC showed a picture of one of the price lists from the 10th edition catalogue of 1964. I hadn't remembered details existed in that catalogue but, on checking, I have 4 differently dated 1964 price lists, all showing Model-Land prices like his. The site does not show this, however, so I am therefore also including the relevant Model-Land pages. I don't recognise the 2 pages the site shows from a Model-Land catalogue, and can only conclude that I probably haven't come across that one. Another one to look out for to join the collection? /media/tinymce_upload/98f654db3e20827304de2b79ec07b634.JPG/media/tinymce_upload/9bf7b6588d7d585c3f63e0357e333154.JPG

edward_goodwin
Thanks for all the pictures and information about the Model Land kits, how about Skaledale versions of the kits that never made it into production such as the Town Hall, Police Station, and Georgon House .Eddy, (not sure if this should be a wish list forum.) 81F
Interesting photos of the catalogue - I recognise the church. It looks like the plastic kit hornby produced a few years ago!
LCDR
It is, and it makes me ask why they cannot bring them back.
