JohnnyGee
Had a wasted hour last night after working out why my West Country loco would no longer run after being fitted with a new tender chassis, only to find out that the pick up wires had been factory fitted the wrong way round!. walkingthedog
Could it be that the new tender would have been the correct way round for a new loco.
JohnnyGee
I doubt Hornby would change polarity on a loco as it would then go in the opposite direction using the same controller action, as I have just found out when I de- dcced a Flying Scotsman and swopped the motor wires. walkingthedog
Yes good point. I take it this loco wasn't DCC.
walkingthedog
I guess if everything including the motor was wired the other way round it would be OK.
JohnnyGee
But the motor would spin in the opposite direction?.
walkingthedog
Not if like you said, the pickups were wired the opposite way round and the motor, things would be the same. Doesnt really matter I was just thinking out loud. Glad you sorted out the problem. Maybe be the motor is the other way round in newer versions.........I'll shut up. walkingthedog
I have. Never heard of a tender being wired the wrong way, that's why I started thinking in text. Won't do it again honest.
Postman Prat
Don't think, WTD. It's not something you have any experience with !!!
Graskie
Do you really think you're any better at it, PP?
walkingthedog
I'll have to think about that PP. Could take some time.
walkingthedog
I try not to have to do too much thinking since I retired. Had to do far too much at work.
96RAF
Could it be that the new tender would have been the correct way round for a new loco. There is a documented convention for wiring locos, with or without tender, but as usual the document and link thereto are in my other part of the world at the mo! JohnnyGee
The wires are opposite to those on both my Wilton and Blackmore Vale.
