Shaun the A4 engine
I don't have DCC control, but I really love the locos with sound. I'm wondering if there's any application/tool can attach to certain part of the track, once the loco passes by the point it trigers sound.Any thought?Shuan
poliss
Most sound decoders will work on DC. TTS locos are an exception. You can buy sound controllers that will work on DC, but they're just as expensive as a DCC controller.
walkingthedog
Poliss is correct, I have a DCC sound loco that works on my DC layout.
Yelrow
How do you control the sounds. Is it hornby or bachmann. john
walkingthedog
It's a Bachmann USA steam loco. It just does the basic ticking over, whistle/ bell as it moves and chuff sound. Can't control the sound, there are 21 in all but I can't access them. Trouble is it drives me up the wall after a minute or two but I can't switch it off. I don't run it very much, only to show people really.
Wobblinwheel
The original QSI sound systems used in the first Broadway-Limited locos were designed to operate in DC. Flipping the REVERSE switch while the loco was moving would trigger the whistle and bell. Then they came out with a "box" that hooked inline with your DC controller that accessed ALL of the sounds with DC. THEN MRC came out with the "Black Box" that wired inline with a DC controller that provided just about all of the normal DCC functions except programming. If you don't want to go DCC, the Black Box is a good alternative for about $50. As long as your loco is set to address 3, you can access all your functions (including throttle and reverse). I'll sell you one if you want it. by the way, with the Black Box, you technically ARE DCC, so you can't run DC while the "Box" is being used. Howbi
Hi, Shaun. Train-Tech do a sound capsule with built in speaker and battery that fits into a loco, tender, coach or goods van. A motion sensor turns it on & off & is available for steam or diesel sounds. Details here:-http://www.train-tech.com/index.php/soundWhen dropped into a goods van it can be used with any of your steam locos.
