Testerchild
Hi all,I've come into possession of an on old unmade Airfix Jet Provost T3 that I'd like to finish as Red Pelicans XS229 that I got a flight in during my Air Cadet days. Found a few photo's on the web, but no idea what shade of red would be nearest to their overall red finish. Any advice please?
Testerchild
Hi Bruce,Thanks for that, it seems like a good call. BTW are there any visible changes between a T3 and a T4?Bob
Testerchild
Hi,I'll give CMR a miss as I can't afford their prices, I don't get on well with resin, and I have an Airfix T3 already: even though it will need a bit of work done on it - joys of model making I guess. But thanks for the useful advice, Bruce.Bob
Jonathan Mock
Hi all,I've come into possession of an on old unmade Airfix Jet Provost T3 that I'd like to finish as Red Pelicans XS229 that I got a flight in during my Air Cadet days. Found a few photo's on the web, but no idea what shade of red would be nearest to their overall red finish. Any advice please? I have the actual original paintshop drawings for the JP3/4 schemes - the scheme was overall BS381 537 Signal Red (same as the Red Arrows), which is Humbrol 174. Testerchild
Bruce & Jonathan,Thanks for your help: I'll try both H19 and H174 on old broken models and see which one looks nearest to coloured pic's on the Web, then go for that on on the JP. I like your Gnats Bruce, and the JP: but the Red Pelicans plane I want to do is overall red. Thanks again, Bob

Jonathan Mock
Hi Bob, I take it you've seen this site:http://aerobaticteams.net/red-pelicans.htmlAn easy ID is how much darker the red on the fin flash usually is to the rest of the airframe. The fin flash is always BS 381C 538 Post Office Red which is slightly darker than Signal Red, which has a more orangy tone, more so in bright daylight . Jonathan Mock
Having made the old kit, it's not an experience I'm in a hurry to repeat. Bring on the new JP!
