wijnands
I'm in the finishing stages of the P-38j and I must say.. it has put my airfix experiences in perspective. On the plus side for academy:- superb sprue layout- harder plastic- excellent panel lines and wing fit- thinner and better shaped canopy On the plus side for airfix- much better decals- better thought out build sequence- much better instructions including paint and decal- good overal shape All in all the airfix kits are fun and good value for money. nmcabecadas
I build a Academy Bf 109 last week and agree with the decals and instructions issue. The Academy kit don't have any major issue, as I can build most Bf 109 without the need for instructions, but seems dull, add very little to other existing kits and the decals aren't as good as Airfix. The best part was the cockpit but isn't a match for the current Airifix Bf 109E.
vimal_indrasoma
Yes, Airfix cockpits have come a long way from the days of little men sitting on fuselage locater pins ... now if they would only mould the pilots arms separately so they can be posed ... nmcabecadas
I still remember a few Airfix kits with the pilot shoulders and head moulded with the fuselage :) The older Gloster Gladiator is one of these kits. http://s164.photobucket.com/user/ChairmanRed/media/Airfix%20releases%202008/Gladiator/DSCF0010.jpg.html
