Code Name: Strikeforce or mail Train
The son of Triangman replied to RedPannier's topic in General Discussion
"Jinites" never carried LMS Maroon livery in LMS service, an example at Butterly Midland Railway Museum has appeared as 16440 in LMS Maroon livery and Br Marron/Red in preservation. Hornby have modelled 16440 a few times over the years. The jinty in the mail set is in LMS Maroon so caries a fictional livery. -

The codename strikeforce set will be a collectors item in time if wellc ared for and the box put away carefully. On the plus side the mail train will be more fun and is realistic apart from the jinty livery. -
They did indeed sell the princess transfers LC&DR and late and early BR totems, GWR 8751 transfers were available and others. strangely the BR roundel transfers weren't on the trade list but odd ones turn up on the "bay" sometimes. Transfers were sold to the trade for repair work mainly. Tri-ang Transfers Early BR Lion Riding Wheel, Light Yellow later BR Totem and post 1965 BR steam late totems. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCF0016_zpsc05f1d0b.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCF0008_zpsa15b432e.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCF0009_zps9825965f.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCF0015_zps2fd770db.jpg

Totally agree PP, we need more small locos. I agree LC&DR the pantographs are hard to find. The Maroon steeple cab is a very rare version, it's always had a working pantograph and carries the BR roundel instead of the usual TR symbol, I've only ever seen one other like it with the BR roundel and that was 30 odd years ago in a junk box at an indoor fleamarket in Newark-on-Trent. It was bought from a trade fair from the Tri-ang stand around 1962, instructions say 1962. It has been out of it's box 3 times in all the years I have known it. Would be worth a mint if it came to general market.

For my friends here, a little of the collection I inherited for you all to see http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0289_zps79b929fe.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0290_zps0d1ed42a.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0288_zps201bce73.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0286_zps7e6a35c3.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0292_zps475e5950.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0293_zps0a924507.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0294_zpscfebc2a5.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0297_zps90eeb118.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0299_zps084dca25.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t43/thetriangman/DSCN0298_zpsea476c03.jpg

Yup, the Tri-ang diesel 0-4-0 shunter is a nice little shunter, it would make a good club or railroad model. Catalouge number for the loco is R.559, it was also realed in train sets in vairous colours and as a clockwork model too. The rarest version is the bright red R.858 Battlespace version, usually as part of the Satellite Set, I was fortunate to come across an individually boxed example of the battlespace shunter some years back so a few must have found their way into boxes.

The Postal service is getting worse since the government decided to privatise it. They have lost 4 of my customers parcels in the last six months. One parcel was returned to us as the customer was on holiday, they didn't put a card thorugh my door or my customers but sent it back to my local post office. It sat there for a month before I went into the post office up the road and then the postmaster mentioned he was holding a returned parcek for me. Both myself and the customer were totally mystified as to where it had gone.

The loco body is coming along nicely with just touching in and minor varnish issues to sort. The loco chassis is a different proposition and needs two new driving wheels which of course I have in my stocks.

Totally agree LC&DR. It's so rewarding to see a former wreck come back to life, the loco looked so sad sitting in a pile of locos and dross on the chaps shelf and I was there on holiday with some spare cash so I bought it, it just had to be saved, it will be a beauty when it's done. I found a box last week at Holt toy and train fair, we had a small stall there selling new and s/h loco bodies and new Hornby and D.pol and whilst we were setting up I went rummaging on another traders stall and found a good box with sleeve. Just need a box plastic liner tray now.

Latest personal aquistions are a tired 1974 Margate made Hornby Britannia, bought as a rainy day restoration project along with 6 Maroon MK1's and an LMS brake Van, and two of those cheapo part work magazine Mk1's. The Britannia was on a model shops "graveyard" shelf in Sheringham, and I took pity on it. It's slowly coming back to life, I airbrushed a spare set of smoke deflectors gloss black yesterday as one of the oiginal gloss black ones had been bodge repaired at sometime and looked terrible. New nameplates and a full paintwork overhaul await, along with a full chassis and motor rebuild. It had one side of broken valve gear and the cylinders were tired, the motor is in good fettle but will be fully overhauled, still have to hunt out from the stock of parts I keep a tneder ladder. Going to be a nice loco.
