  1. I have 1st, 2nd & 3rd radius curves on my small layout, and all but one of my steam locos handle the 1st radius with ease. All the locos are fairly modern, 10 to 15 years old at the most. The one that fails is a Fowler 4F 0-6-0 tender loco from Bachmann which has little or no lateral movement on the axles. My diesels also have no issues, though I tend not to run the largest, such as the class 37 or class 55 deltic on 1st.

  2. An old school technique for painting this type of figure is after washing to remove mold release is to coat the figures with dilute PVA glue. When dry it forms a more resilient skin, which helps the paint adhere. This was before the introduction of acrylic paint.

  3. The current Railroad Pulmans do come with pre-printed names/car number. The parlor car carries the name "Rosemary", I don't recall what the car number is carried on the parlor brake. I did acquire some stickers to rename duplicates, but don't recall where.

  4. I had a Minic Motorway set many years ago.  While i didn't have any of the intergrated railway items, I did have a cross road section and as I recall there was no automatic stop at the junction.  That being so, I doubt there was any automatic for your level crossing, unless that was a feature on later items.  The minic sets were, or at least mine was, made by Tri-ang and would have used their series 3 track.

  5. "To me, a Class 08 leading a train cab first looks odd. Nearly all of the time I run with radiator / grille first, and if it happens that the cab is forward, I nearly always run it round so that the radiator / grille is first.

Might just be me being odd!"

No, it's not just you,GWR 14xx.  I also prefer to run my single ended diesels bonnet first.  It may not be prototype practice, but to me it just looks better.

  6. I’m in need of some help with regard to Royal Mail trains.  I’ve recently acquired one of Bachmann’s TSO’s (39-421B), and I’m looking to create a rake with a 39-420 (TSO without pick-up nets) if I can find one plus BR Mk1 or ex-LMS BG’s.  My question is, would the BG’s be in BR livery or Royal Mail colours and markings? This would be for era 4/5.

  7. This is the 6x4 track plan that I use, adapted from one of the Hornby track mats.  Hornby track with some half lenght Peco straights.

Uses 1st, 2nd & 3rd radius curves, and while 1st is generally not recommended most of my loco stock seem to manage it OK.
