  1. are there any N gauge people on here and is there a section on this site for n gauge. i know Hornby did minitrix which i believe to be n gauge so i dont think i am breaking any forum rules

  2. I know lots of people on here base layouts on specific eras or particular places. I have decided to make my layout a heritage one so I can have modern or old buildings and vehicles so anything fits in and if I see anything I fancy I can use it without it looking out of place

  3. I think you will find it a waste of money trying to buy the old steel track it will be cheaper in the long run to buy the more modern nickel silver track, having recently started with this hobby i bought old steel track hoping to save a few bob only having to replace it with the newer stuff later so costing me more money than if i had bought new first time. i dont think you will find anyone on this forum going for the old stuff

  4. It's derailing mostly on curves but will go round two or three times then derail at random if I send it round at a crawl it's better but anything more than that it's hopeless one of my other locos is a brand new black 5 that runs perfect. I will check the back to back

  5. having just returned to the hobby after a longish layoff i want to install one set of points using a cdu and on/off/on switch. if you see this post chrissaf some time ago you did a simple wiring diagram regarding this could you post it again please. i have searched the forum trying to find it but not been able to. Thanks

  6. i have an R357 patriot class 5xp duke of sutherland, i assume there is some kind of power pick up from the loco wheels which is then transfered to the tender via the copper contacts on the conecting bar, i have had a good look but cannot see any copper fingers that i was expecting which rub on the wheel flanges. if there is a power transfer from the wheels how is it achieved

  7. just had a test run only using one siding with one set of points they will only be running at the same time for a few seconds just to give time for them to pass each other then one would be stationary until my next change over,  need to practice my timing as one loco is faster than the other as was stated earlier, Thanks for all the advice

  8. there seem to be a lot of sellers on e-bay these days saying its from my grandfathers or fathers old collection is this just a get out clause because they really dont have a clue what they have got
