I have a very basic twin oval layout joined by turnouts do i need to use insulated joiners or is it just a matter of making sure both controllers are set for the same direction of travel and speed
-

I have done a search but can't find an answer for this basic question how far apart should track be laid
-
I know lots of people on here base layouts on specific eras or particular places. I have decided to make my layout a heritage one so I can have modern or old buildings and vehicles so anything fits in and if I see anything I fancy I can use it without it looking out of place

Is there a preferred direction of travel over points or should a loco be happy to pass over from any direction

Just bought some old blood and custard coaches with plastic wheels should I oil them or leave them dry

I think you will find it a waste of money trying to buy the old steel track it will be cheaper in the long run to buy the more modern nickel silver track, having recently started with this hobby i bought old steel track hoping to save a few bob only having to replace it with the newer stuff later so costing me more money than if i had bought new first time. i dont think you will find anyone on this forum going for the old stuff

easy question for all you experts was the ivatt class used for passenger or frieght or both.thanks

It's derailing mostly on curves but will go round two or three times then derail at random if I send it round at a crawl it's better but anything more than that it's hopeless one of my other locos is a brand new black 5 that runs perfect. I will check the back to back

Just taken delivery of a brand new R3448 Welbeck Abbey and been having a test run but the front bogey is constantly derailing my other locos run perfect on the same track any ideas please

is it possible to give a rough idea what the R numbers are for loco drive ie R + 3 numbers or R + 4 numbers i want a loco drive but dont want to buy a tender drive by mistake
-
i have an R357 patriot class 5xp duke of sutherland, i assume there is some kind of power pick up from the loco wheels which is then transfered to the tender via the copper contacts on the conecting bar, i have had a good look but cannot see any copper fingers that i was expecting which rub on the wheel flanges. if there is a power transfer from the wheels how is it achieved

just had a test run only using one siding with one set of points they will only be running at the same time for a few seconds just to give time for them to pass each other then one would be stationary until my next change over, need to practice my timing as one loco is faster than the other as was stated earlier, Thanks for all the advice
-
Thanks so far I suppose I should have said analogue ? I just want to run either one or the other in and out of a siding instead of having to physically lift one of track to let the other one run round the main loop
-
Can I run two locos at the same time on the same track with one controller I am on d c
