  1. Hi,

To clarify some of the points.

Whilst Hornby International has always produced DCC Sound fitted versions of its models, they always used in the past a 3rd party DCC chip. The HM7000 system uses sound files in a very different way and we wanted to go back to the source files and remaster each set of sounds. This will take time. In some cases where we do not own or have the rights to the source sounds we'll need to start from scratch and find recordings or make them ourselves.

That said, we're working on this project actively and in parallel with app development, so sounds will not take 'years' to start arriving.

  2. Morning,

I must admit it took me a while to work out what screw under the smoke dome you meant.

This is a very old feature of the model and in honesty, the screw is no longer used for anything and you do not have to remove it to remove the body (You never did have to).

So apologies for the confusion, I've requested an amende service sheet is put on the FAQ center to stop confusion. The draft version is below showing we've removed the arrow and an indication about how to remove the screw under the steam dome.

In summary, you only need to remove two screws under the chassis to remove the body where you'll find the decoder socket.

  3. Hi All,

I've never attended this Belgian steam festival.

But the line up sounds quite interesting and I thought I'd repost the details I've been sent as they have not left much time to arrange a visit - so probably need all the support they can get.

If anyone visits perhaps some photos can be shared here?

    Also from the organisers :

There will be four steam locos working on the standard gauge line and two on the Narrow Gauge.

Visitors are Krupp “Hanibal” class 0-6-0t “Tom” from Hoogovens, Ijmuiden on standard gauge, and “Maaike”, O+K 0-4-0t no 6900 of 1913, from Leemspoor at Rijsen in Holland on the Narrow gauge.

There will also be three main line diesel locos visiting of which at least one should see some use on passenger trains.

As extra attractions, there will be a display of preserved farm tractors, model and live steam railways and a selection of trade stands.

  4. In fairness the example you give @ellocoloco does have more details.

The title and and long description will be written in the language for the local market, then they get shortened or translated into the other 4 market languages.

On product specifications, here is the info which tells you there is a Close Coupling mechanism.

We use pictograms and yes/no options as it needs no translation - each language variant of the website has a template holding the standard questions in their local language - and knows which reply to display without us translating thousands of product descriptions.

  5. Hi Rallymatt,

Not sure I'm seeing what you are in the Arnold TT section.

    Arnold TT Scale Models (arnoldmodel.com)

I've checked the first 7 pages of products the only 'image waiting' is for spare parts - which won't always be photographed due to volume and the fact all are shown on the instruction sheet in the box, and appears in Tech Support area as a PDF.

The other points about longer descriptions I'll check out the info and see what we can add. In general we try and provide facts and features about the models.

  9. Hi All,

I'm not sure about other people, but after the best part of 2 years without shows and exhibitions, I'm excited to be heading off to my first one this weekend.

It's also the first time Hornby International will have been out displaying products, so if you are in the Crewe area, then please do feel free to drop by. There are a number of 'under development' products to see first hand as well as many recent releases which can be purchased.

The Swiss Railways Society are hosting the event which is in the Crewe Railway Heritage centre. It's the Spring meet - so there are layouts and traders at the event.

Although between you and I - I think I need to practice packing my car boot a bit better!

  10. Morning Everyone,

We will be publishing the new 2022 ranges for all the Hornby International brands here on the website next Tuesday 11th Jan. Check back from 9am to see the planned products coming this year.

Don't forget the 2022 catalogue - showing the current, and future products. It will be shipping from our warehouse from the 11th Jan too. Here is the back cover to tease you (I can't show the front cover of course just yet!)

    forum_image_61d41172cf3fe.png.a0cfc7d5a62c1441111fcf79ed262c4b.png

  11. Very impressed with those Tim.
Ever had the feeling you backed the wrong horse starting out with OO, when these superb Ho models are available, which in my opinion, based on limited experience of Electrotren models, and are of greater fine detail and much better engineered than their Hornby cousins.

Ah - quite true in my case. I sold my Hornby models around 10 years ago and converted to HO Swiss outline. It's a wonderful country from the scenery and rail operating perspective. lot's of tempting models to acquire and operate on that 'future' layout too.

  12. Hi All,

I've been looking forward to these since they were announced last year.

Ordered in 2010, by late 2017 over 700 double-deck coaches and driving cab units had been produced.

They can be seen in FS liveries and TrainNord. Lima are producing three different liveries, to begin with.

They are hauled by E464 electric locomotives - which conveniently are also in stock in the Lima range currently.

The Locs are a rather good £137.99 each.

The coaches come in 3 car and 2 car add on packs: £144 & £95.

So, I think that makes a loco and 5 coach train available a the rather attractive price of just under £380 - I'm looking forward to my order!

  13. Hi Peter,

I have one folder of scanned photos which we're organised by the Archivist at their Deepdene Museum.

They all seem to come from the 10,000th journey of the train.

Major General Scott-Barrett is giving the speech in the dining car.

    These hopefully might help?

  14. Hi Tim,
I have been researching the Berlin Military Train myself for many years, having used it myself for family and school trips to Berlin; I have a website dedicated to the Berliner at www.British-Berliner.org where I have tried to compile and present as much information as I can about this service.
Something that has alluded me so far are layout plans for the two RCT officer coaches (Salon m and WGSm) as well as the escort coach (Bcmk). During your research at the RLC Museum, did you come across any drawings or photos that show the interior layouts? I’d be forever grateful if you found anything in this respect that you could share.
In return I would be happy to offer any assistance possible with livery and lettering for potential other versions of these coaches, if the intention is to produce these at a later stage.
    Best Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

There weren't any drawings - but I did have some photos. Let me see which ones I scanned. There were many of the Military Ambulance train - another set of coaches that Rivarossi has the basic coaches for but not with any of the medical modifications of course.
