  1. Still awaiting response from Hornby on this. But have purchased TTS J36 and still had to change the cv to run DC to get it to work ( as previously mentioned). I have also recently purchased TTS black 5 which worked straight outta the box.
  2. TY Colin for info. May consider it in near future and I suppose eventually will have to 'update' programme on the controller, SIGH. My experience is U could run into trouble updating and receive 'bugs' on download. BIGGER SIGH !
  3. Update for DAISY II is by a 63120 LocoNet usb interface. I am not going to bother, concentrating on expanding my loco stock and TTS loco's. Just for info/fun my layout based on Kyle of Lochalsh, Plockton, and Strathcarron stations/line around 1950's. Researching info, I find difficult, cause I like to loosely base it around reality. Model locomotives difficult to locate, although mainly 'black 5's were used, HR loco's used (no models, unless kits) but I like variety.
  4. WOW. Did'nt expect this kind of diversion to discussions. It is well explained in other areas that i have read, re. problems of compatabilities, when manufacturers imply there should not be. My experience of this hobby is only 3 years and I dont have a technical background other than my interests. Uhlenbrock Daisy II is not perfect (as is the NORM it appears), but it fits my particular needs for my layout (and budget). Some decoders I have (before purchase of the Uhlenbrock) don't work with the controller! However, a particular type of decoder from one manufacturer works, but the 'other' type does not !!!! Uhlenbrock do updates, but U need a cable to connect to a computer, and I am not saying in any way one particular product is better than the other. I know, from experience what U/Colin are saying about the car industry, re looking for excuses when they can't locate a fault (expensive), that's another story LOL. 😆
  5. In response to YELROW. It would appear from Ur post U have not read the beginning of this post (no offense inteaded). ALL dcc controllers and decoders are MEANT to work with one another, although this not always true. TTS decoders are worth the money, but they gotta work. I already have other TTS decoders and Hornby decoders on my locomotives which work as they should and in my opinion worth the money. I can't give an opinion on their controllers. Also, in this post others have had 'problems' with more expensive decoders, so money don't necessarily means it will or it won't. HOWEVER, love Ur photo, it looks very similiar to my little girl, rescue from Crete !
  6. The Uhlenbrock DaisyII, I think is similiar to a Marklin controller. The fleishman , U mention maybe similiar to Uhlenbrock 5000 which (to me) looks similiar to a TV remote control. I have had some makes of decoder not operating with my controller. I have not had any problem (so far) with changing address.
  7. HI Just an update.....been in contact with Hornby Research and development and are invetigating this problem, which appears to be limited to the Uhlenbrock controller. This is due to the fact that, 1) I was informed that ALL decoders are tested on a variety of controllers ( not Uhlenbrock Daisy ll), 2) Hornby have NOT recived any other communicay's of similiar problems with any decoders. PATIENCE.
  8. Hi all Glad to get folk communicating. I suppose (to keep today's theme Hummm) I got a vaccine for the problem NOT necessarily the cure, because decoder SHOULD function normally on CV29 value 2. That is why awaiting Hornby technical team to investigate and I would presume they will have 'other's' of the same batch. Also I am not going into other CV's of this as this will be investigated by professionals. PATIENCE.
  9. Hi Contacted Hornby Technical Services (a chap called Glen). He states reason for factory CV29 value set at 2 was not for DC/DCC runaway loco's. However, he requested and given (e-mail) factory codes on box. Awaiting response. Seemingly I may have to return these.
  10. Hi RAF96 andChrissaf TY for the info. BUT I want sound SO I will risk it but will not purchase any more of these particular sound decoders. SICK FED UP RETURNING THESE FOR REFUNDS and in HORNBY'S CASE REPLACEMENT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. As I said I wont be purchasing any of these, and hope that the 'black 5' sound decoders are PROPERLY TESTED with the software.
  11. Hi Fault in TTS J36 decoders, found CV29 value 2 given in defective decoder. Changed CV29 to value 6, resolves directional problem of only functioning in one direction !!!!!
  12. Hi all GREAT NEWS ! Found the 'fault' in this decoder. Checked CV's between one's that would'nt and the one that did work. CV29 value 2 on the defective decoders, CV29 value 6 on the one that worked. Changed CV29 on the defective one AND LOW AND BEHOLD, HALLALUHIA, it worked. Why did'nt Hornby inform me of this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Hi Colin Hmmmm! Yes it must be software/chip, well, in my case due to them doing same in other loco's, including a loco where one does work. STRANGE ! A case where one factory worker getting it right and the rest wrong, maybe !?! Should have kept every thing in GB even if cost a few quid extra.
  14. Hi Colin, RAF96, and all. Where do I start. I was simply saying it best to be truthfull and not say it is from a reputable dealer when it is not. Recent decoder awaiting collection from delivery company, to be returned to SUPPLIER, Hornby. NOW, I have tried decoders in other loco's (2P 4-4-0, 4P 4-4-0, Drummond 0-6-0 all hornby and the 4F 0-6-0). All my loco's except for 1 have Hornby decoders. I have 1 J36 TTS decoder in a Hornby 4F 0-6-0 and 2 Hornby black 5s and a Bachmann Jubilee with black 5 TTS decoders, ALL working properly (touch wood). Requested a replacement, SOOO if replacement does not work I will check these CVs 7 and 157. However, since I am now dealing with Hornby I don't see the need to inform them, really, as they will recieve the defective decoder! A BIG TY FOR ALL ADVICE IT IS MUCH APPRECIETED, and it is always good to improve one's knowledge. Dealer/seller on e-bay recognised by e-bay but not Hornby. Hornby has a list of recognised dealers, check it out. I JUST WANT SOUND FOR ALL MY LOCO,S AND I WILL KEEP TRYING BUT NOT PAYING HUNDREDS LOL.
  15. Hi, Colin and ALL SAGA continues. Decoder bought on e-bay finally accepted for return and refund. SOOOOO, bought another on Amazon from Hornby. Recieved today (NO RECEIPT), and again same problem works if loco faces DOWN line, loco faces UP line no response with intermittent, sporadic brief sounds!!! Returned for exchange through Amazon. I HAVE ONE WORKING (purchased on e-bay) on a 4F 0-6-0. As to what I have stated re. HORNBY response IS WHAT I WAS INFORMED BY E-MAIL from Christopher Doran, Cusomer Care Assistant. Sorry but I was brought up that TRUTH ALWAYS PREVAILS.
