David Jones1707820337
Quick question - apart from the decals, are there any differences between the original 1/24 Mosquito (NFII / FBVI) and the new release? And while we're on the topic, why, oh why, couldn't Airfix have released a REAL Mosquito in 1/24 (glass nose, 4000 lb bomb, none of these wimpy cannon things........sits back and waits for the fun to start.....lol)
Jonathan Mock
Same kit, new decals, including the black/medium sea grey 4 Sqn scheme.
peebeep
It's the same kit, different decals. If you check out the wing tips and transparencies you will see the rear facing nav lights are included, these were features on bomber variants, so Airfix may have it in mind to issue a bomber/PR variant at some time. David Jones1707820337
Cheers, guys - I thought that was the case, but a couple of online sources mentioned "new tool".Luckily I've got the old one (£50 out of a modelzone sale) in my (ever increasing) stash.....Good news on the possibility of a B
david_fleming
I'm sure someone at Airfix I spoke to at Telford mentioned that a B was a possibility - and the fact they are re-issuing the FB means they see a market for that kit
garryo
My 1/24 Mosquito just arrived in the post this morning - all I can say is, "Wow!"The sheer size is amazing. I'm sure anyone contemplating buying does the same as I did - wingspan 622mm, so you get a rule and measure it out - sure, it's big but you like a challenge, etc. Well, all I can say is, wait until you see the kit in real life and look at the all in one piece lower wing section - it's absolutely huge!Even the box is a sight to behold. Anyone used to building Airfix 1/24 kits will be used to the impressive packaging they come in - the Mossie box is around 2" thicker than even the 1/24 Typhoon - imposing isn't the word for it.I know it's a reboxing rather than a retooling, and yes, the Typhoon is probably a bigger technical achievement, but in terms of sheer presence and buildability, this is surely the greatest kit Airfix has ever produced - utterly stunning.Despite all the issues that Airfix have had to deal with as a company over the last 25 years, they've emerged into what must be their golden era when it comes to the kits they are producing. Sure, the kids of today aren't brought up with Airfix as I was and maybe model building isn't front and centre as a hobby any longer, but the sheer technical competence of the newer post-Hornby kits is breathtaking.I just hope I have the skills to do it justice - I think I need to practice on some other kits first! Jonathan Mock
A lot of the RCAF artwork options had swastika in the kill marks, so had to be discounted. Pity as they are some great schemes, but that's why we have an aftermarket sector. Anyone making anything Mosquito (or Beaufighter) and looking for something different should check out Aviaology Decals. The research that goes into them is superb. Fighter Pilot
Too big for little old me I'm afraid! A new tool smaller scale (different engines to Tamiya's) would be welcome, but I wouldn't want Airfix to divert themselves from that Buccaneer or 1:24 Tucano!
